Versions of 1998 vs 2019 – Resident Evil 2 Review

Resident Evil 2 was established by Capcom back in 1998. Also, the remake of the game has been out in 2019. So what is the difference between the two?

The main difference is the graphics. On one side, you have pixelated graphics with 2D poor visuals and sounds in the 1998 version. On the other side, in 2019 you see high graphics, quality 3D visuals with astonishing sound effects.

But if one has never played the original game from over 20 years ago then the difference might be insignificant.

The Plot

The Game is an extension to the story of Resident Evil. So Exactly 2 months after the Resident Evil, the virus turned citizens of Raccoon city into Zombies. The reason for this infection was the Umbrella’s T-virus. Umbrella was a pharmaceutical company.

A police officer Leon S. Kennedy meets Claire Redfield, a college student, at a Gas station. Claire looks for her missing brother Chris, a police offer who went missing.

Leon and Clair agree to meet up at police station after being separated by the attacks of Zombies. The police station is under the Zombies attack and other monsters. One monster out of these, Tyrant, attacks to hunt down and kill any survivors.

Clair and Leon then try to escape the town for their lives as the Zombies attack them.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is Better and more terrifying

The timeline of Resident Evil 2 goes back to 1998. Back then, everyone thought the game was extremely realistic. And rightly so. In 2002, the first remake was out for Resident Evil and again everyone was astonished.

However, it is a reality that with the advancement in technology the game was destined to improve. At the same time, the game is also a humongous contrast to the earlier versions. 3D Visuals is one of such contrasts that contribute to the differences.

High-Quality 3D Characters are a Highlight of this Resident Evil 2 Review

Talking about the Quality of 3D characters, one resident evil player can instantly spot the difference. Actually, the characters are a highlight of the game.

The main characters include a fictional cop, Leon S. Kennedy, and Claire Redfield. However, there are other side characters that stand out as well from previous versions.

The main side character is, however, Ada Wong, an FBI officer. She assists Leon while staying mysterious throughout the series.

On the other hand, there are characters that are the core of the game i.e. Zombies. One can without any doubt say that these are the best ever Zombies ever. The spider, the lickers and the undead zombies are the same yet more terrifying than ever.

While one plays the game for the first time, the terrifying dead with petrifying sound effects is so engaging yet horror-filled. The pleasure one gets as a player while shooting their heads with handguns or shotguns shells is unmatchable.

Capcom did a really Great Job of Recreation

While we sing the praises of the Game, all credit goes to its creators, Capcom. Capcom did a really fantastic job with recreating a highly advanced game from scratch.

They really focused on the Quality graphics, realistic user experience and developed the same story. They really set the standards for recreating a game from scratch.

One might argue about no difference between the storylines of Claire and Leon but one can let it pass. The effort was good enough to earn them a high rating. The series is reliving again for sure.
